The 2025 Mazda CX-50 is a rugged yet sporty compact crossover SUV that accommodates up to five passengers. It is frequently compared to the Mazda CX-90, the largest SUV in the Mazda lineup. The three-row Mazda CX-90 and the Mazda CX-50 received updates this year, elevating their appeal. What should you know about these Mazda models before making your purchase?
The 2025 Mazda CX-50 is available with 10 trim levels and three powertrains. The base engine is a four-cylinder, naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, 187-horsepower system. A turbocharged variation of this engine is available and produces 227 to 256 horsepower. A hybrid system with this four-cylinder engine and three electric motors is also available, generating 219 combined horsepower. All Mazda CX-50 trims for 2025 have all-wheel drive. In comparison, the 2025 Mazda CX-90 has three different powertrains. The turbo 3.3-liter V6 engine puts out 280 horsepower. A high-output V6 is also available and generates 340 horsepower. Select trims are offered with a plug-in hybrid system.
The Mazda CX-50 is distinctive with its compact stature and tall, arched profile. The sleek sides are accented by a linear crease that rolls over the rear fender. Dark molding runs from front to rear. At the front, tall air inlets angle inward toward the wide grille. A U-shaped LED ribbon accents the small headlights. The Mazda CX-90, on the other hand, has broad dimensions with a raked rear and metallic trim from front to rear. This trim also underscores the grille and flows toward the sleek, angled LED headlights.
Numerous features are shared between these Mazda SUVs. Some of those features are heated seats in the first two rows, a navigation system, a surround-view monitor, a premium Bose sound system, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, driver's memory settings, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, an auto-dimming rear mirror, a wireless smartphone charger, adaptive cruise control, wireless smartphone app integrations, a 10.25-inch infotainment system screen, a blind-spot warning and numerous others. The Mazda CX-90 offers a few additional features, including a tri-zone climate control system, second-row sunshades, a larger infotainment system screen, more USB ports, second-row captain's chairs, auto reverse braking, and a few other features.
